Class Descriptions

Campbell River judo club

Little Judoka (Ages 4–5)

A playful, introductory class designed to help young children develop balance, coordination, listening skills, and confidence. Students learn the foundations of judo through fun games and activities, including basic movement patterns and early dojo etiquette.

Young Judoka (Ages 6–7)

In our Young Judoka program, students learn to roll and fall safely (ukemi/breakfalls), along with basic ne‑waza (ground techniques) and tachi‑waza (standing techniques). Classes include a mixture of technique, judo‑oriented games, and lessons on judo history and customs, with opportunities to begin competing in club and Island tournaments and prepare for progression into the Junior program.

Juniors (Ages 8–12)

Our Junior Program is designed for children of all skill levels and ranks, with classes often divided into smaller groups based on experience to support safe and effective learning. Students learn beginner to advanced techniques as they progress through their training, with opportunities to compete in local Island tournaments and eventually travel to off‑Island events.

Teen & Adult Judo (Ages 13+)

The Teen/Adult program welcomes students of all ranks and skill levels, offering technical skill development, conditioning, and randori (supervised sparring). This class is ideal for families who want to train together and for students pursuing competitive training, with some Juniors under age 13 invited based on experience and skill level.

Advanced / Competitive Training

Designed for experienced judoka seeking to refine technique, build strength, and prepare for competition. Training includes advanced technical work, tactical development, and randori, and students interested in advanced or competitive training are encouraged to speak directly with the Head Sensei.
